Roberto Mancini has confirmed that he wants to sign Stevan Jovetic, with Inter Milan moving closer to a deal for the Manchester City forward.

Jovetic, 25, is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium, although he is under no pressure to do so, and has attracted interest from several Italian clubs.

Inter are reportedly close to completing a loan deal for the Montenegrin striker that will lead to a permanent move next summer.

Former City manager Mancini believes the versatility of Jovetic, who joined City soon after his departure in 2012, would benefit Inter.

"We really need an attacker because we only have two players up front at the moment," Mancini told Corriere dello Sport.

"I already tried to sign Jovetic in my last season with Manchester City, but he arrived when I was gone.

"He can play as a focal point or as a support striker but could also feature on the wings."

Jovetic has started only 11 Premier League games in two injury-hit seasons at City and his future has been in doubt since he was omitted from their Champions League squad for the second half of the season, a decision he said "killed" him.

He has not started a game since the shock FA Cup home defeat to Middlesbrough in January.

Former City manager Mancini has tried to sign several of his old players, and had hoped to bring Yaya Toure and James Milner to the San Siro.
