Kevin De Bruyne 'not for sale' despite reported Manchester City interest

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has indicated that star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is not for sale no matter how much money Manchester City offer.

On Wednesday, the Daily Mirror reported that City were set to bid £60 million after the Belgian midfielder, 24, told Wolfsburg that he wanted to leave Germany.

German newspaper Bild suggested City were willing to invest over €200 million in the player when the details of a five-year contract were added to the transfer fee.

But Allofs said it makes "no sense" to talk about whether those sums would be enough because the club had still not received any offers.

"We don't have a game plan for 'what would happen if,'" he told German TV channel Sport 1. "If someone comes with that much money... it's not happened yet so we don't need to think about it.

"But Kevin is also categorised as not for sale. I think he played a decisive role for our team last year. When you have the sporting ambition that we have, it should be forbidden to let him go."

De Bruyne was voted the Bundesliga's outfield player of the year last season, scoring 10 goals and creating 20 more as Wolfsburg finished runners-up to Bayern Munich.

The former Chelsea player also scored in the German Cup final on May 30 as the Wolves won the competition for the first time in their history by beating Borussia Dortmund 3-1.

The Belgium international's form has inevitably seen him linked with the likes of Bayern, City and Paris Saint-Germain. But Allofs said Wolfsburg have no need to concern themselves with the speculation until it becomes more concrete.

"If such a thing does happen, we have a commitment to our players to deal with it seriously," Allofs said.

"But, again, as a club we're not obliged to... we're not in a situation where we need to sell players.

"And, like I said, from the point of view of our sporting ambitions... taken together this already shows that it's almost impossible that we will sell any players."

Last week, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said he felt De Bruyne would stay at the club for at least one more season.
