Francesco Totti wants Roma to sign Edin Dzeko from Manchester City

Francesco Totti says he hopes Roma sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnia international could leave the Etihad Stadium this summer and is a target for the Serie A runners-up.

And Roma's record goalscorer Totti wants to see the former Wolfsburg striker become a Giallorossi teammate of his.

"I hope he's among the new signings because he's a top player, formidable at scoring goals," said Totti, who was speaking at a news conference in Australia. "He'd help us do better."

Roma lacked a prolific scorer last season when the 38-year-old Totti was their leading marksman with 10 Serie A goals.

Dzeko fell out of favour at the Etihad Stadium and was an unused substitute in City's last six matches after only scoring two goals in his previous 23 appearances.

But he struck 26 times the previous season and has scored 71 goals in 185 games for City since his £27 million arrival in 2011.

There were unconfirmed reports last week that Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini bordered a plane to Manchester to discuss a move for Dzeko.

Roma will face City in the International Champions Cup in Australia on Tuesday.
