Victor Valdes hints at Manchester United stay despite missing tour

Victor Valdes has given an indication he is determined to stay at Manchester United and fight for his future after he was omitted from their squad for the preseason tour of the United States.

Valdes, who was David De Gea's deputy last season, was left behind in Manchester as manager Louis van Gaal opted to take United's reigning Player of the Year, plus Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone, on the flight to Seattle.

After Antalyaspor claimed they were in talks with Valdes, his agent, Gines Carvajal, said the goalkeeper had no interest in joining the Turkish club and wanted to remain at Old Trafford.

Valdes was then left out of United's touring party and Catalan newspaper Sport claimed he had been offered to Real Madrid, but the keeper wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: "After a hard training session this morning, I am working hard for this season! Come on you Reds!!!!"

The former Barcelona keeper joined United on a free transfer in January after two-and-a-half months training with the club.

He has only made two appearances for the club, with his sole start coming at Hull on the final day of last season, but Van Gaal may have a vacancy for a goalkeeper with Real Madrid interested in De Gea, though they are yet to meet United's demand for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.

United are adamant De Gea will stay for the final year of his contract if his valuation is not met and Van Gaal said he had no qualms about taking the 24-year-old on tour.
