Asmir Begovic completes move to Chelsea from Stoke City

Asmir Begovic has finalised his to move to Chelsea from Premier League rivals Stoke City.

Begovic, 28, has signed a four-year contract with the champions, who were in need of a new understudy to Thibaut Courtois following the sale of Petr Cech to Arsenal.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Chelsea have paid £8 million for the Bosnia-Herzegovina international, with Stoke insisting that Marco van Ginkel go in the opposite direction on loan as part of the deal. The Dutch midfielder switched to the Britannia Stadium last Friday.

Although Begovic will wear the No. 1 jersey, with Courtois keeping the No. 13 he wore last season, there will be no doubt the Bosnia-Herzegovina international has been signed as back-up.

Begovic told Chelsea's official website: "I am very happy to be joining Chelsea FC. After speaking at length to the manager, I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team. I am looking forward to meeting up with the team on Wednesday for the pre-season tour."

He also issued a message to Stoke fans via his Twitter account:

Begovic, who began his professional career at Portsmouth before joining Stoke, is Jose Mourinho's second signing of the summer after Radamel Falcao arrived on loan from AS Monaco.
