Bordeaux boss Willy Sagnol has said he "would be the last to complain" if Yoann Gourcuff returned to the club.

Gourcuff, 29, is currently without a club after his contract with Lyon ran out last month.

The France international midfielder's five-year spell there was beset by injury problems, denying him the chance to build on the promise shown when he helped Bordeaux to the 2008-09 Ligue 1 title.

Bordeaux have been strongly linked with a move to bring Gourcuff back to south-west France, and Sagnol told Sud Ouest: "Yoann didn't play a lot of games at Lyon, but each time he played he was rather good.

"He's a talented player. We're going to see whether or not his thoughts and those of the board move forward.

"If Yoann joins the squad one day, I'd be the last to complain, but for the moment we haven't offered him very much.

"The few times we have spoken it was simply to see whether or not it could work again between Les Girondins and him."

Gourcuff has also been linked with a return to Rennes, where he started his professional career before moving to AC Milan.

He was seen at Bordeaux's training centre last month, sparking speculation that he would join them, but has held talks with Rennes.

Gourcuff's lawyer, Didier Poulmaire, who last month said Gourcuff was considering his next move, told L'Equipe in quotes reported by Foot Mercato: "He's impatient to play football again.

"But he is determined to be at 100 percent before he commits to a club. I can't give an exact deadline, but talks are ongoing."
