Man United target Schneiderlin returns to Southampton training

Morgan Schneiderlin returned to training with Southampton on Tuesday, dispelling suggestions he may stay away from the club as he looks to push through a transfer to Manchester United.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that Schneiderlin missed training on Monday after he called in sick, but he said he was certain the midfielder would be back on Tuesday and join the club's preseason tour of Austria.

Koeman also confirmed that his club turned down an offer from Manchester United for his midfielder two weeks ago, with no subsequent bid being lodged, and said the France international could only leave "at the price the club wants."

There have been suggestions that United, whose bid is reported to have been £7 million short of Saints' apparent £27m valuation, are now weighing up alternative options, but Koeman is eager for a quick decision to be made.

"I hope that if there is any business that it will be soon," he said. "That is best for the player and best for us. We need to sign a player if we sell the player."
