Al Ain striker Asamoah Gyan to hold Shanghai SIPG talks - sources

Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG are set for talks with Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan after agreeing a fee with Al Ain, sources have told ESPN FC.

Shanghai SIPG, managed by former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, made a big-money offer for Gyan, 29, last week, which has now been accepted.

After seeing rivals Shanghai Shenhua bring in former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba from Besiktas, SIPG want to bring in a marquee signing to boost their title chances and are hopeful of securing a deal for the Gyan.

The striker has been a major success for Abu Dhabi-based Al Ain since joining the club initially on loan from Sunderland in 2011 before making the move permanent a year later.

Gyan has scored 95 goals in 83 games helping Al Ain win the league three times and in the process finish as UAE Pro League Top Scorer on three occasions.

Al Ain were keen to keep Gyan, but they have reluctantly accepted SIPG's offer and given Gyan permission to travel to Shanghai for talks and a medical this week.

SIPG are currently second in the Chinese Super League as they chase the title.
