Ajax expect Jasper Cillessen stay despite Manchester United links

Frank de Boer has said he expects Jasper Cillessen to stay at Ajax despite reported interest from Manchester United.

Cillessen had been tipped as a possible successor to United goalkeeper David De Gea, who is wanted by Real Madrid, but Ajax said in May that the Netherlands international is not for sale.

Ajax boss De Boer has told Voetbal International he is confident he will keep Cillessen.

"He is very important to us so we do not want to lose him," he said. "I'm assuming that he stays."

Cillessen became Netherlands' first-choice goalkeeper during Louis van Gaal's reign and helped his country finish third in last summer's World Cup.

De Gea is yet to sign the lucrative new contract United have offered amid interest from Real, but ESPN FC has been told that his club have insisted the 24-year-old will stay at Old Trafford for another year unless they receive a world-record bid for a goalkeeper.
