Stoke in talks with Real Madrid over signing of Sergio Molina - sources

Stoke City are in talks to sign highly-rated Real Madrid defensive midfielder Sergio Molina, sources have told ESPN FC.

Stoke have found success in the Spanish transfer market having signed Bojan Krkic and Marc Muniesa from Barcelona in the past few years, and they also are closing on a deal for Camp Nou youngster Moha El Ouriachi this summer.

Molina, 19, has come through the ranks at Real Madrid having been at the club since the age of nine, but Stoke are hoping to lure the midfielder to England as he has been unable to break into Real's star-studded first-team.

The midfielder is highly-rated by the Bernabeu club and featured in the UEFA Youth League last season, making six appearances and scoring two goals.

Sources told ESPN FC that Stoke's scouts have been actively monitoring Molina and they feel his style of play would be perfect for the English Premier League.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is keen to revamp the club's under-21s set-up by bringing in some of the best young talent from around Europe to build a group ready to challenge for a place in the first XI.

On Wednesday, sources told ESPN FC that the club could be set to claim the shock signing of Inter Milan midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri after the two clubs agreed a £12 million fee.
