Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas should stay at Real Madrid - Danilo

Real Madrid's new signing Danilo is hoping that Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos will be his teammates at the Bernabeu next season.

Both Casillas and Ramos have two years left on their contracts with Real, but have been the subject of transfer speculation in recent months.

Long-time goalkeeper Casillas has had a difficult two seasons with the Merengue outfit, and the expectation that Manchester United's David De Gea will join the Madrid club this summer has fuelled rumours of his departure.

Spanish sports newspaper AS reported on Thursday that Real are stepping up their bid to complete De Gea's transfer, with the Spain international due to begin preseason training at United on Monday.

De Gea turned down a contract extension at Old Trafford and has one year left on his current deal.

AS also reports that Real could ease Casillas' departure to another club by paying part of the player's wages.

Casillas, 34, has been a reported target of Italian club Roma, but his high earnings could prove an obstacle to any deal.

Ramos, meanwhile, has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona.

Multiple media outlets have said that the Spanish defender has asked the club to listen to offers, although sources have told ESPN FC that United do not want to raise their €40 million bid as they won't pay over the odds for the Real Madrid defender.

When asked about Real captains Casillas and Ramos, Danilo said to Marca: "They're historic players at the club, the sort of figures that you can lean on when times are tough.

"They're extremely important for the club, whatever the situation.

"I'm not on the inside, so I don't know what's going on or what their situation is, but speaking from the outside and with all due respect, as a new Real Madrid player I would like them to stay."

No matter who is at the club, Danilo knows competition for playing time is going to be stiff.

The Brazil right-back joined Real from Porto in a €31.5 million transfer last month, signing a contract with the Spanish giants until June 2021.

"Right now I'm the third choice right-back at Real Madrid," the 23-year-old said. "Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Arbeloa are already there and I haven't arrived yet.

"I know I will need to earn my place, to show what I can offer while they already a past at the club.

"I will have to do more than them as they already have a very high level. It's going to be an interesting battle and it's going to be fun for the club.

"I hope I can learn and improve with them, they are internationals and have experience."
