Former Liverpool, Ajax forward Ryan Babel joins UAE-based Al Ain

Ryan Babel has moved to UAE-based side Al Ain, the former Liverpool and Ajax forward has announced.

Babel, 28, has been playing at Turkish club Kasimpasa but will join up with his new side on July 10.

Gulf League champions Al Ain already have Asamoah Gyan -- who was recently the subject of a bid from Sven-Goran Eriksson's Shanghai SIPG -- and Lee Myung-joo in their squad and Babel replaces Miroslav Stoch as one of the club's four foreign players after the former Chelsea winger's loan spell from Fenerbahce was not made permanent.

"I am very happy to move to Al Ain," Babel said. "I want to regain the Asian Champions League and the President's Cup, and retain the Arabian Gulf League title. Observers of Asian football have a good knowledge of Al Ain: they are a team full of stars and armed with a history full of achievements and championships.

"I'm very excited to start the season with the team, especially since negotiations were conducted in an excellent manner with high professionalism between all parties. I really wanted to represent Al Ain and I hope to repay the confidence shown in me by the coaching staff, led by Zlatko Dalic, so that I can make the fans of the team happy."

Happy to announce that it's 100% official now! Proud to represent @alainfcae for the next 2 years and looking forward to this journey! I wanna thank my former club Kasimpasa for their service and trust and believe in me... Babel made his name at Ajax before moving to Liverpool in 2007. He made 146 appearances at Anfield but opted to move on three years later and has had spells at Germany's Hoffenheim, Ajax and Kasimpasa since.

He made his international debut for Netherlands in 2005, and became the youngest goalscorer in 68 years when he netted in a 2-0 win over Romania -- but has not added to his 46 caps since 2011.

Al Ain team manager Nasser Al Junaibi, however, believes the 28-year-old will be a fine addition to the squad.

"Babel was one of the most prominent names put forward by [head coach] Zlatko Dalic to strengthen the team for the new season," Al Junaibi said. "He has a wonderful personality, high technical potential and has considerable experience in football with clubs such as Liverpool, Ajax and Hoffenheim."
