Galatasaray target Lukas Podolski needs regular football - Joachim Low

Germany boss Joachim Low has told Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski he needs to be playing regularly as he considers a transfer to Galatasaray.

Podolski spent the second half of last season on loan at Inter Milan and, although he has said he is open to remaining at the Emirates Stadium, he would likely find himself down the pecking order at the Premier League club.

Galatasaray have already confirmed their interest in the 30-year-old, while Podolski told NTV Sport: "If an offer comes from Turkey, I will sit down and talk about it with my family and girlfriend."

Fanatik, meanwhile, reported on Monday that Podolski was in the Turkish city of Antalya.

Low has now told Podolski, who has made 125 appearances for Germany and was part of the 2014 World Cup-winning side, that he needs to be playing regular football to secure his place at Euro 2016.

"I want him to play at least 30 to 40 matches next season," Low said. "If he comes on as 'joker' [impact player] in some of those matches it does not matter. He needs to play.

"Two years without regular match practice would not be a good basis for entering the European Championship."

He praised Poldolski's "positive attitude" but added that he had lacked the "necessary physical fitness in recent months."

He said the player should seek talks with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to determined whether he would be part of his plans.

"He should not take things as they come -- he should approach Wenger to get to know where he stands," Low said. "What are Wenger's plans for him? If Wenger sees him as a substitute, Lukas needs to consider whether he wants to be that."
