Depay compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, Man United could head transfer chase

PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay has been compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo by fellow Dutchman Ronald de Boer, who believes Manchester United could have the edge over Liverpool in any transfer battle.

Both Premier League clubs have been linked with the £25 million-rated Netherlands international striker.

PSV's sporting director, Marcel Brands, has told Dutch TV on Monday that Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are all in the hunt for his signature. Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN FC that Liverpool are also tracking him.

Depay has played a starring role in PSV's Eredivisie title success this season, scoring 20 goals to date. De Boer has been impressed and has suggested he could become one of the world's best.

He told talkSport: "He is one of the biggest talents in Europe. He has skill compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo. He is very lively, technically unbelievable, very skilful, very fast, he has a great goal-scoring record, he can shoot from every distance -- he has everything.

"For me, he is without doubt one of the best talents we have.''

De Boer, who works as a coach under brother Frank who is the manager at Ajax, believes the presence of Louis van Gaal as United manager could give the Old Trafford club an advantage.

Depay, 21, played under Van Gaal during his recent spell as national team boss.

De Boer added: "I don't want to say which club is more suitable for him, but if he goes to United he knows there is a Dutch coach there who knows him from the World Cup. That is an advantage.''
