Jermaine Pennant's Singapore chapter to feature in film about his life

The experiences in Singapore of former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant will be documented in a feature film about the life of the former England U21 star.

Pennant is set to make his competitive debut for his new club Tampines Rovers against Geylang International in their S.League season opener on Monday.

And the Asian chapter of the 33-year-old will be part of the movie called 'From The Streets', which charts his life to the top echelons of football from a rough neighbourhood in Nottingham.

The film is the idea of British director and producer Sheridan De Myers, who was inspired by a new autobiography about Pennant which is due to be released in July.

"The film producer was working on a story about a footballer who goes from nothing to something huge. But when he heard about my story and the things that went on in my life, he was shocked and rewrote the entire script for the movie," Pennant told Today.

The former Arsenal junior joined Tampines last month on a one-year contract on a reported salary of S$40,000 per month.

The Pennant movie is currently in pre-production and filming is due to start in the middle of the year.

His rollercoaster life includes scoring a hat trick on debut for Arsenal as a teenager, starring for Liverpool in the 2007 UEFA Champions League final and serving jail time in 2005 for driving while serving a 16-month ban.

Pennant believes that his life story will make an entertaining film.

"No other professional footballer has gone through what I have and I promise this movie will be more than just about football," he said.

"And I am sure you will see some of my experiences in Singapore being featured."

Pennant last played competitively for Wigan Athletic in the English League Championship in May 2015 and also had a three-month spell at the end of 2014 in the Indian Super League.
