Tampines Rovers' new recruit Webb aims to play Suzuki Cup for Singapore

Canadian forward Jordan Webb has vowed to deliver a sixth S.League title to new club Tampines Rovers while declaring that he dreams of playing for Singapore in the AFF Suzuki Cup.

The winger was one of Courts Young Lions' top performers last season, with six goals and eight assists in 18 appearances. He has joined V. Sundramoorthy's star-studded Tampines side for the 2016 season.

With the media glare on Jermaine Pennant's move to the Stags this week, Webb knows that he could be competing with the former Liverpool star, plus wingers like Christopher Van Huizen and Hafiz Sujad, for a role down the flanks at Tampines.

"It's an honour to play for a big club like Tampines." said Webb. "I played for one [Home United] before and it is nice to play under coach Sundram who wanted me here.

"I don't want to say how many goals or assists I can get, but I want to be one of the best players in the league this season and to do that, I've to put on a show every time I go out there. But most important, is to win."

Webb, 27, is expecting to help his team challenge on all fronts. But after spending time with team captain Fahrudin Mustafic in training, the Canadian forward is setting his sights on doing well in two main competitions.

"I spoke to 'Farra' and he said the league title is the most important," he said. "For me, I probably want to win the league and go far in the AFC competitions. To at least get into the group stages of the AFC Champions League will be something for Singapore football and if not, the AFC Cup is just as good."

One other priority is to seal his citizenship status. Webb has played in Singapore for five seasons so it could be as early as this year that he is cleared to represent the Republic on the international stage.

The former Canadian Soccer League star added: "I am going to try and do the same thing as 'Farra' and get citizenship because I want to play for Singapore. That is what I wanted to do from a long time back at Hougang United when I first came here.

"To have that flag on my chest, that has always been the dream. I want to win the Suzuki Cup and help Singapore go places. And then I can think of playing in the A-League over in Australia or something when that happens."

Having travelled halfway round the globe to fulfil his dream of playing professional football, this could be the season when Webb carves a name for himself on the international stage. But first, the 2016 S.League season beckons.
