Fumiya Kogure and Steve Kean take top honours at 2015 S.League awards

Marquee imports Albirex Niigata's Fumiya Kogure and Brunei DPMM coach Steve Kean took home the top prizes at the 2015 S.League awards.

Held at the Marina Bay Sands on Monday evening, it was a spectacular ceremony that rounded up a season of pulsating football action in the country's premium domestic league.

Having helped Albirex Niigata to a 2-1 comeback victory in the RHB Singapore Cup over Home United last week, Kogure sealed the Player of the Year award, having been the hot favourite for his stellar season as the White Swans' midfield lynchpin with five goals and 13 assists in all competitions.

There was also joy for former Blackburn Rovers manager Kean, when his name was called out for the Coach of the Year award. The Scottish manager guided DPMM to their first-ever S.League title, with a 4-0 home win in front of 25,000 fans on the final matchday.

"Football has given me the privilege to travel and see different countries like Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Brunei and of course Singapore," said the 48-year-old tactician.

"It has been a good season for us at Brunei DPMM and I receive this award not for myself, but on behalf of my technical staff, players and management. I would also like to thank the Crown Prince of Brunei, for his support to the team.

"Playing in the S.League has been a wonderful experience, and of course, we have to say a big thank you to the fans back home who have turned out in numbers to support us.

"I think our 25,000 crowd on the last day of the season is a S.League record, and I hope that all the teams in the league get even better next season. With competition comes improvement and that will be good for everyone."

DPMM's young attacking midfielder Azwan Ali won the Young Player of the Year award, beating the likes of Balestier Khalsa's Ignatius Ang and Courts Young Lions goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari and Nazirul Hashim of Harimau Muda.

Shotaro Ihata brought more joy to the Albirex camp when his stunning winner against Balestier in March was named the Goal of the Season.

To round up the awards, Youngs Lions won the fan club of the year, DPMM's Rafael Ramazotti grabbed the Top Scorer award with 21 league goals and referee Jansen Foo was crowned referee of the year.
