Brunei DPMM finish season with 3-1 win in Singapore Cup over Global

Brunei DPMM FC finished their 2015 campaign with a win after beating Global FC 3-1 in the RHB Singapore Cup third-place playoff on Friday evening.

First-half goals from Hendra Azam and Paulo Sergio got the Bruneian outfit on their way, although Dennis Villanueva pulled one back for Global four minutes into the second half.

But six minutes after the hour mark, Boris Raspudic popped up with a third goal to seal the victory for DPMM.

Having won their first Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League title less than a week ago, DPMM's hopes of completing a double were ended on Tuesday when they were eliminated by Home United in the semifinals.

Nonetheless, to their credit, they were still up for the fight on Friday and showed plenty of initiative from the opening whistle.

A minute before the half-hour mark, they broke the deadlock after being awarded a free kick on the edge of the box -- Hendra stepping up and sending a superb strike into the back of the net.

Two minutes before half-time, they doubled their advantage when Sergio made no mistake the penalty spot, after Daisuke Sato was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.

Global did give themselves a lifeline in the 49th minute after good work from Sato, saw him race down the left and send an excellent cross into the box, where Villanueva nipped in ahead of Wardun Yussof to head home.

It then looked as though they had equalised in the 63rd minute when Villanueva ghosted in at the far post and converted Mario Clarino's right-wing delivery, only for the strike to be ruled out for offside.

And just two minutes later, DPMM went on to seal the win after Rafael Ramazotti pounced on a loose ball and drilled it across the face of goal, allowing Raspudic to stab his shot past Patrick Deyto from a couple of yards out.

"I'm very pleased because it's been a long season and it's always nice to finish on a high," said DPMM coach Steve Kean.

"The players have been absolutely fantastic.

"Now, it's about trying to keep improving and that's really important for football in Brunei."

Meanwhile, Global boss Leigh Manson bemoaned a few of the decisions that went against them.

"We don't feel good about anything to be honest," said the Scot. "The first goal was not a free kick.

"When you see it on television, I don't know if Dennis' second goal was offside but I hope it was.

"We are hurting at the moment but we can't say much more than that."
