Fadli Kamis is ready to help Courts Young Lions draw level with Hougang United at the bottom of the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League table when they entertain Balestier Khalsa FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday night.
The right-back has been in sensational form since the league resumed and not only has he helped the U23 side secure four points out of three games, he even managed to score the second goal in their 2-0 victory over defending champions Warriors FC.
They then went on to secure a thrilling 1-1 draw against Brunei DPMM on Monday night, with Sherif El-Masri netting a late equaliser that proved enough to gain a point off the Bruneian outfit.
With just three points separating them from ninth-placed Hougang, a win over Balestier could help Courts Young Lions draw level.
"I'm really enjoying my role as a wing-back!" Fadli told ESPN FC. "Everyone hates to be last. We'll definitely try our best to move up. The season is not over yet and the team is ready to do what we can to get ourselves off the bottom."
Facing a Balestier team who have been unbeaten since the resumption of the S.League a fortnight ago, Marko Krajlevic's team will be eager to continue the surge up the table, where they currently sit in fourth spot, just four points off league leaders Warriors FC.
With seven-goal Miroslav Kristic back from suspension, the Tigers will have enough firepower to trouble the Young Lions defence. But they may have to do without left-back Ho Wai Loon who limped off with an injury in their 2-0 home win against Harimau Muda.
Fadli knows the danger posed by Kristic and his strike partner Robert Pericic but is confident that interim coach Juergen Raab's game plan will help them maintain their good run of form.
He said: "Balestier are a really strong team and they have big players upfront like Kristic and Pericic. But if what is important is that we stick to our own game plan, listen to the coach's instructions and hopefully deliver against them."
He added that the Young Lions is all about team effort and as long as a result is achieved it does not matter who gets on the score sheet. Although Fadli would love to score another goal before the season ends.
"Our team morale is very high. We played well in all our three previous matches. It was good to get four points from the last three matches, that too against top teams like Warriors and Brunei DPMM," said the 22-year-old defender.
"My thoughts are that we must stay focus and motivated, keep playing like how we have been doing. Yes, I definitely hope to score again in the future but it really doesn't matter who scores because it is a team effort and all about the end result."
The last time the two teams met in April, Balestier put on a masterclass at Toa Payoh Stadium to cap off a fantastic 5-1 victory against Aide Iskandar's charges. But this is a very different Young Lions side who seem intent on salvaging a poor start to the season.
This promises to be an exciting encounter where three points for Balestier could propel them to the dizzy heights of third position while a home win will take Raab's team off the foot of the table.
