S.League: Warriors hotshot Fazrul not taking Young Lions lightly

When the Courts Young Lions take to the Jalan Besar field against Warriors FC on Monday in their Great Eastern Yeo's S.League clash, they will face Fazrul Nawaz, a man in red-hot scoring form.

Fazrul has enjoyed a sensational streak since returning to his former club three weeks ago on transfer deadline day, having found the back of the net in all three matches he has since played.

A brace against Tampines Rovers on Friday included the winner in a 3-2 thriller and brought his tally to five in the league, just one behind top scorer Rafael Ramazotti of Brunei DPMM.

The result saw the Warriors rise to second in the table and they have the opportunity to displace Albirex Niigata (S) from the top if they avoid defeat to the Young Lions.

While Aide Iskandar's charges have garnered only one point from five games, Fazrul remains wary of the cellar-dwellers and believes the game could be a potential banana skin.

"Yes, looking at their performances [so far], the results haven't gone their way but we won't take them for granted," he told ESPN FC after the victory over the Stags. "I've watched them play; they were just unlucky in some games... we have to be careful of them and their counter-attacks and we shouldn't take them lightly."

Warriors boss Alex Weaver will hope Fazrul can continue banging in the goals -- the defending champions have won all three of those games -- but the 29-year-old was keen to attribute his form to his teammates' efforts.

"The team has pushed me to do better and I myself have worked even harder [as a result]," he explained. "It's all about hard work and I am thankful that I have a team like this."

In particular, Fazrul appears to have struck up a telepathic understanding with the attacking trio of Miroslav Pejic, Nicolas Velez and Hafiz Rahim, who are usually deployed behind him.

They have set up the Singapore international for all five of his goals -- Pejic and Hafiz have one assist each, while Velez has three. In addition, Fazrul has returned the favour once for Velez as well.

It is a quartet to be feared and Fazrul hopes they can "keep it going". "It's really a joy to play with them, especially Velez; he's really a very good signing," Fazrul said.

The forward also hopes that the goal rush will continue when he next faces a defence that has leaked ten goals in five games.

"I just want to keep on going, working harder and concentrating on helping the team," Fazrul said.
