Sevilla's Samir Nasri returns to training ahead of UCL game vs. Lyon

Samir Nasri looks set to feature for Sevilla against Lyon in the Champions League on Wednesday night after returning to training following a month out of action with a muscular problem.

Nasri, 29, last played on Nov. 6 when he was forced off the pitch with a recurrence of a left thigh injury in a 2-1 home defeat to Barcelona.

Nasri completed Sunday's session and a statement from the La Liga club confirmed the news that he was closing in on a return to action.

"Samir wants to play and is closer to making his comeback," a statement said. "The Frenchman completed the work done with the group, good news without a doubt."

The Frenchman had a starring role for the Andalusian club after joining it on a season-long loan from Manchester City on Aug. 31.

He started in 10 games in all competitions and scored three goals before getting hurt.

Sevilla defender Sergio Escudero could also return on Wednesday after missing Saturday's 2-1 league defeat at Granada due to muscle fatigue. He completed half of Sunday's training session.

Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli, who will have to watch Wednesday's game from the stands because of a one-match touchline ban, will also be without the services of suspended forward Franco Vazquez.

Sampaoli's side is second in Group H of the Champions League, one point behind Juventus and three points clear of Lyon, who need to win and have a better goal difference than Sevilla to knock the Spanish side into third place and clinch the last qualifying place for the round of 16.

Sevilla are third in La Liga after their defeat on Saturday.
