Samir Nasri revitalised after switch to Sevilla from Manchester City

French midfielder Samir Nasri feels revitalised by his summer switch to Sevilla from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old joined the Andalusian club on a season-long loan from City on transfer deadline day, looking to prove a point after a difficult spell in England.

Nasri has made an impact, starting in seven games in all competitions and scoring three goals while setting up another.

He scored the only goal in Tuesday's 1-0 triumph at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League which kept Sevilla unbeaten and level on seven points with Juventus at the top of Group H.

Nasri told Marca: "I hope I've returned to playing my best football. I know I feel very well, I have the confidence of the coach and this is my time to play.

"Last season I was six months out injured. I knew what I wanted was playing time and I have it here.

"I hope I can give to this club all the confidence they have given me.

"All that I want is to help the team and If I do so by scoring goals, that makes me happy."

Having joined City for £25 million from Arsenal in August 2011, Nasri fell down the pecking order following the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne in the summer before the 2015-16 campaign.

He then missed six months of the season after having an operation for a groin injury.

He missed all of City's pre-season for the 2016-17 campaign and after returning to training overweight, new coach Pep Guardiola did not play him in the first four games.

Under coach Jorge Sampaoli at Sevilla, Nasri has become a key figure in Sevilla's play.

Unlike at Arsenal and Manchester City, Nasri is playing in his preferred position at Sevilla.

He touched the ball 145 times in Tuesday's game against Dinamo, three passes less the Dinamo team made overall.

"I like to have the ball and to play in a central role rather than on the wings," he said. "My preferred position is at the heart of midfield.

"At Marseille, I played in a central role in midfield just as I do now at Sevilla.

"It was only at Manchester and at times at Arsenal, when I started to play on the wing."

Sevilla have lost one game this season. They are third in La Liga and host leaders Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
