Jorge Sampaoli takes over at Sevilla, replacing Unai Emery

Jorge Sampaoli has signed a two-year contract to take charge of Europa League winners Sevilla.

Sampaoli, 56, who led Chile to the Copa America title last year only to resign in January, replaces Unai Emery in the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan dugout on a deal running to 2018.

A statement published on Sevilla's official website hailed the Argentine as "one of the most popular coaches in world football'' and backed him to give the club "fresh impetus'' to keep progressing.

In May, Sevilla beat Liverpool to win their third consecutive Europa League crown -- and their fifth in 10 years -- but at the end of the season head coach Emery announced he was leaving Andalusia.

Emery has since been linked with the managerial vacancy at Paris Saint-Germain and his path to the French capital is clear after the Ligue 1 champions parted company with Laurent Blanc on Sunday.
