Seattle Sounders add veteran goalkeeper Troy Perkins

The Seattle Sounders added MLS veteran goalkeeper Troy Perkins on Tuesday.

Perkins' contract with the Montreal Impact ended after last season and he was available after not being selected in December's MLS Re-Entry Draft.

Perkins, 33, debuted in MLS in 2004 and has also played for D.C. United and the Portland Timbers, as well as a two-year stint with Valerenga in Norway.

"Troy is an accomplished player that is well-known throughout our league," Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said in a statement. "He has been one of the most consistent performers at the goalkeeper position during his MLS career, and he brings experience to our roster. We look forward to welcoming him in Seattle shortly."

Perkins has seven international caps for the United States, most of which came during the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

He had five clean sheets in 21 games last season for Montreal.

"It's a huge honor to be asked to join a club with the kind of prestige and class that Sounders FC represents," said Perkins. "As an opponent, playing in Seattle was always a special thing and it will be a lot of fun being on the other side of it. The fan base there is really top-notch and atop the league."
