Double ban boost for Stranraer

Stranraer goalkeeper David Mitchell and Barry Russell return from suspension as the Blues look to knock Ross County out of the competition for a second season running.

Steven Bell is an absentee due to an ankle injury, with manager Stephen Aitken saying: "We are in the same position as last season as we have nothing to lose.

"One thing we have to do better, if we are to get another fantastic result, is ensure that we are stronger in defence.

"Ross County look to have started poorly in the Premiership but I am not fooled by that as they played very well against Dundee United at the weekend."

Ross County manager Derek Adams will field his strongest team possible as he looks for his first win of the season and revenge over Stranraer.

A strong County side lost 3-2 at Stair Park in the second round of the League Cup last season and County go into an identical tie on the back of three Scottish Premiership defeats.

Adams has some unnamed injury doubts to add to Tim Dreesen's back problem but he could go with the same side that suffered a late defeat at Tannadice on Saturday.

Adams said: "We know it's going to be a tough game and we know what it's going to be like when we get there.

"But we go there in a positive frame of mind from a very good performance against Dundee United.

"We will have to look at the injury situation but we will be going with the strongest available team to win the match.

"They are a physical side, they have great desire and work ethic and have done well over the years, but from our point of view, we need to use the quality we have in the side to overcome them."

One player who will definitely miss out is defender Steven Saunders, who is still sidelined with an ankle problem.

When asked about the former Motherwell player's situation, Adams said: "We don't have a further update. We are just looking to see how his rehabilitation is going to go. Hopefully it goes well and he will maybe be back sooner than we thought."
