Late goals from James Forrest and Moussa Dembele took Celtic past Alloa and into the Betfred Cup semi-final but the Hoops made hard work of overcoming the League One outfit 2-0 at Parkhead

A goalless first half was characterised mostly by poor finishing from the Ladbrokes Premiership leaders while returning Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was perhaps fortunate to only get a yellow card for his high challenge on Wasps striker Greig Spence outside the box.

Numerous attempts on the visiting goal also went...

Morton reached their first major semi-final in 35 years with a hard-fought 2-1 Betfred Cup win over fellow Championship side Dundee United at Cappielow.

Ton attacker Jai Quitongo blasted the home side into the lead in the 24th minute before defender Thomas O'Ware added a second just after the half-hour mark with a header.

Nick van der Velden reduced the deficit in the 55th minute with a drive but Jim Duffy's side held out for a landmark quarter-final victory.

Rangers put the ongoing Joey Barton saga to one side as they cantered into the Betfred Cup semi-finals with a 5-0 win over Queen of the South.

Goals from Jason Holt and skipper for the night Andy Halliday put them in control before Martyn Waghorn added a second-half hat-trick.

The display - which books Rangers' place in Wednesday's last-four draw - was welcome respite for boss Mark Warburton following a week and more of scrutiny in the wake of the 5-1 Old Firm mauling by Celtic, and the subsequent...

Kilmarnock exited the Betfred Cup following a goalless draw against Albion Rovers at Rugby Park where the League One outfit won a bonus point with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out win.

It was a jittery and disjointed performance from the Ladbrokes Premiership side who were more than matched by the composed visitors.

Substitute Ross Stewart, skipper Michael Dunlop, Paul Willis, Kyle Turnbull and substitute Scott McBride scored from the spot for the Coatbridge men.

Killie captain Steven Smith, Gary Dicker and...

Dundee hammered Forfar in the Betfred League Cup but it was not enough for a place in the last 16.

Paul Hartley's side ran riot with a 7-0 rout at Dens Park but that only saw them finish third as Peterhead topped Group A, with East Fife in second.

But the Dark Blues will hope to take confidence from the victory ahead of their Ladbrokes Premiership opener away to Ross County next weekend.

They put three goals past Garry Bollan's League Two visitors by half-time before hitting another four after the break.
