Christian Streich unhappy with boos during Freiburg's promotion party

Freiburg coach Christian Streich said his club could do without the fans who he said ruined their promotion party at the weekend.

Freiburg clinched the 2. Bundesliga title with a 2-0 win over Heidenheim on Sunday, but having already secured their promotion back to the top flight after only one season in the second division a week ago, it was evident that his team was not as committed as they had been in previous matches.

Nevertheless, Streich says that is no reason for some of his club's fans to boo the players for passing the ball back to the goalkeeper on occasions, as happened on Sunday.

"I've never witnessed anything like it," Streich said at the postmatch news conference.

"We don't need people like that in our stadium, they would be better off staying at home.

"I've got no time for people who just want to spoil everything. I thought I couldn't be hearing right -- I'm extremely disappointed."

Including Sunday's win, earned by two late goals, Freiburg have won 22 and drawn six of their 33 games this season to beat Leipzig to the title, with both going up to the Bundesliga next season.

"I dread to think what it's going to be like next season when we don't win a few games -- are the fans going to leave the stadium?" Streich asked, thanking "99 percent of the fans" who joined in the celebrations at Freiburg's immediate return to the top flight.
