Sampdoria confirm Marco Giampaolo as new boss on two-year deal

Sampdoria have hired former Empoli boss Marco Giampaolo as their new head coach.

Giampaolo, 48, has signed a two-year contract at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and succeeds Vincenzo Montella, who left Samp for AC Milan last week.

Switzerland-born Giampaolo had previously been touted as a contender for the Milan job but instead finds himself in Genoa.

A statement published on Samp's official website said: "U.C. Sampdoria is pleased to announce the appointment of Marco Giampaolo as our new head coach on a two-year contract.

"Giampaolo will be unveiled to the media during a news conference at 13:00 CEST on Wednesday 6 July, in the press room at the Centro Sportivo Gloriano Mugnaini in Bogliasco."
