Wife of Nigeria's Fegor Ogude freed by abductors

Nigeria midfielder Fegor Ogude's wife was released late Sunday night, nearly a week after being abducted at their home in the Nigerian oil city of Warri.

"For now I am still speechless," the midfielder told ESPN FC. "I'm still trying to recover from the trauma my family went through, but we thank God we now have her back home, safe and sound."

Memunat Ogude was taken from her home last Monday by unknown gunmen, leaving her husband, who plays his football in Russia for Amkar Perm.

It was not clear if any ransom was paid for her release, with Ogude saying his family would like some privacy to recover from the trauma.

"I just want to get off the public glare so that my wife can overcome the sad experience," he said.

Ogude's experience is just the latest recent abduction surrounding Nigerian football, following the kidnapping of the mother of former Nigeria international and current under-23 coach Samson Siasia.

Nigeria international Christian Obodo was abducted in Warri in June 2012. John Obi Mikel's father was taken in Jos a year earlier, and Joseph Yobo's brother Nornu was also abducted and later freed in 2008.
