Russia finally pay off all debts to national team coach Fabio Capello

MOSCOW -- The Russian Football Union says it has cleared its debt to national coach Fabio Capello, who had been unpaid since June.

The announcement comes a day after billionaire businessman and Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov said he loaned 400 million rubles to clear the debt amid financial problems at the RFU.

The organization said in a statement on Friday it completed "necessary operations to transfer the money" to Capello.

Separately, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, who arranged Usmanov's loan, told the Tass news agency that Usmanov's loan would not cover any future wage payments.

Russia, the 2018 World Cup hosts, have won just one of their past eight competitive matches, and are third in their Euro 2016 qualifying group.
