David Moyes says he would love to win Copa del Rey with Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad coach David Moyes has said La Liga safety is his main priority for the season, but he is also targeting the Copa del Rey.

Speaking ahead of Thursday's last 32 first leg tie at Real Oviedo, Moyes -- who has taken four points from his first two league games -- said he "gives importance to all cup competitions."

But with Sociedad in 14th position, just three points above the drop zone, the former Manchester United and Everton manager told a news conference that avoiding relegation remained his key aim.

"Any competition you enter you want to try and win," he said. "But we also have a big job to make sure that, at the end of the season, we remain a La Liga team.

"So you have to prioritise, and at the moment our league position is not as good as we would like it to be. But I would love to win the Copa del Rey."

This year's Copa draw has seen holders Real Madrid, along with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, put in one quarter, meaning only one of the big three can reach the last four.

La Real, should they make it that far, would be likely to face one of them at that stage.

Their 17-man squad for the Real Oviedo match is without big names including Esteban Granero, Sergio Canales, Xabi Prieto and Carlos Vela.

And Moyes said that, with a tough league game to come at Villarreal on Sunday, he was using the Copa to field some reserve and younger players.

"I have to see the other players," he said. "All the players are first-team squad players. We will take some of the promising young B team players as well.

"We will again prioritise and make sure we keep our really important players ready for the game on Sunday."

Oviedo, currently in the third tier, are an historic name in Spanish football and returned to wider public view after a fundraising campaign led to Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim getting involved two years ago.

Moyes said: "We know they are a strong team, an experienced team also. But their priorities will also be in the league, trying to gain promotion."

While the coach has not yet indicated how active he will be in the January transfer window, the club's latest financial results have suggested that there is money to spend if required.

After the sale of players including Asier Illarramendi, Antoine Griezmann and Claudio Bravo in recent years, the accounts show net profits of 24,437,495 euros for the 2013-2014 campaign, with a prediction of 35,887,663 euros for the current season.

Presenting the results, president Jokin Aperribay said the club was going "in the right direction" and in "a very important moment, an historic moment in which Real Sociedad is standing firm to its philosophy whilst continuing to develop and grow as an institution."
