Real Salt Lake defender Chris Schuler has knee surgery, out 4-6 weeks

Real Salt Lake center-back Chris Schuler will miss be sidelined for 4-6 weeks after having surgery on his right knee.

Schuler tore his meniscus during warm-ups before RSL's defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday and had surgery on Monday.

Schuler is one of RSL's top defenders but has suffered a number of injuries during his career, including facial fractures and chronic foot problems. He also had an unrelated knee problem earlier this month.

"I'm pleased to say that Chris' surgery went very well today," RSL surgeon Andrew Cooper said. "He and I have worked through injuries over the years. He's tough, and I think he'll fight through this and do very well and be playing fairly soon."
