Reports: Real Salt Lake GM to join Seattle Sounders

The general manager of Real Salt Lake, Garth Lagerwey, will not return to the club in 2015, and is reported to be headed to the Seattle Sounders in time for the start of the 2015 MLS season.

Assistant coach Craig Waibel will assume the role of technical director at RSL upon Lagerway's exit, the Salt Lake Tribune confirmed, citing an unnamed source, and adding that the club plans to restructure its front office.

Lagerway will likely succeed Adrian Hanauer as the club's GM, SI.com reported late on Monday, citing two unnamed sources.

ESPN's Taylor Twellman first reported a potential move via Twitter late on Monday.

Lagerwey has overseen a long period of success during his time as RSL's vice president and general manager. Since he joined the club in 2007, RSL have reached the MLS post-season on all seven possible occasions -- including an MLS Cup title win in 2009.

A Real Salt Lake spokesman told MLSsoccer.com on Monday night that "Garth Lagerwey is currently our general manager, and it is premature to speculate on what 2015 will bring."

Lagerwey, meanwhile, told the Salt Lake Tribune on Monday that no written deal is in place to send him to Seattle.
