Pepe's farewell to Real Madrid was 'a little grey' - Dani Carvajal

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has told Movistar+ it was a shame to see Pepe leave without a final game at the Bernabeu, adding that his farewell to the club had been "a little grey."

Pepe, 33, thanked teammates and supporters when he confirmed he would leave Madrid after a decade, but said he was unhappy with the way he was treated in his final months at the club.

The Portugal international joined from Porto in 2007 and had hoped to prolong his stay, but talks broke down earlier this year.

And Carvajal said: "He was here for 10 years, and he gave everything for this club.

"It's a shame he wasn't able to have a game at the Bernabeu where he could have received the ovation he deserves, and also that his goodbye has ended up being a little grey."

Pepe claimed Madrid's behaviour during contract negotiations was "not correct" and said they had not defended him when he had tax issues.

He added that he did "not understand" why he disappeared from Zinedine Zidane's team during the final weeks of the season.

Carvajal, however, said he did not want to comment on what he called a "personal situation" between the two.

On Monday, Eintracht Frankfurt said Jesus Vallejo would return to Madrid from a loan spell to take Pepe's place.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Morata's agent has confirmed that there is an offer from Manchester United, and Carvajal said he would understand it if the striker felt it was time to move on.

"If I put myself in the skin of a player that doesn't play much and wants to make the World Cup next summer, maybe the best option is to leave... or maybe not," he added.

"You never know, but he has to seek what's best for him."
