Sergio Ramos: Humble Real Madrid players weren't born in Beverly Hills

Sergio Ramos has hit out at an Atletico Madrid social media campaign about their team's values, saying: "It seems people think we were all born in Beverly Hills."

Real Madrid travel to Atletico for the second leg of their Champions League semifinal with a 3-0 lead from the first match at the Bernabeu.

In the build-up, Atletico's social media team have been sending out tweets with the hashtag #NoLoPuedenEntender (they cannot understand) and messages such as: "I love you for your values, not for what you win."

The tweets have been widely seen as a response to the Real Madrid fans' club-sanctioned first-leg banner that said: 'How does it feel to have lost two Champions League finals?'

But speaking at the prematch news conference, captain Ramos said: "Here it seems we were all born in Beverly Hills, with a current account of more than €40 million.

"But we have many people who come from humble backgrounds, who were brought up well. All the campaigns, whatever anyone wants to do, does not change what we do.

"We have our values, our humility and make our sacrifice on the pitch."

Atletico captain Gabi was asked about his comments and said: "Where you were born or brought up has nothing to do with the humility you have.

"The humility that I identify with is that which is represented by our fans. You would have to ask Sergio if he was replying to the club's tweets."

Meanwhile, Ramos was also asked about Barcelona's Gerard Pique being whistled when attending the Madrid Open tennis tournament.

"If I go to Barcelona, the same happens to me too," he said. "I'm not going to be able to change people's opinion. Everyone looks after their own turf."
