Real Madrid set new club record for goals in consecutive games

Real Madrid set a new club record by scoring in their 42nd consecutive game when Alvaro Morata headed home midway through the first half of their La Liga clash with Espanyol at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

Morata's header means Madrid have scored in every game they have played since the 0-0 Champions League semifinal draw at Manchester City in April.

The previous club mark had been 41, which Madrid had reached three times over history, in 1952, 1989 and 2012.

The run of 42 consecutive games scoring is the best by any La Liga club since Barcelona set their club record in a run of 44 matches between 1942 and 1944.

Last month, Zinedine Zidane's side set a new all-Spanish club record of 40 games unbeaten in all competitions with a 3-3 Copa del Rey draw at Sevilla, only to then lost next time out when they were beaten 2-1 by the same side in La Liga.
