Sergio Ramos: Real Madrid targeting La Liga and Champions League titles

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos said he's disappointed his side no longer have a chance to win a treble after their elimination from the Copa del Rey by Celta Vigo.

However, he said he is already looking forward to the battles in what he called the "most important competitions" of the Champions League and La Liga.

The club went on a La Liga record 40-game unbeaten run earlier this month, and coach Zinedine Zidane said that the treble is "what everyone wants."

However, Real were unable to turn around a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Celta Vigo and drew 2-2 at Balaidos stadium on Wednesday evening to exit the competition at the quarterfinal stage.

"It's a tough loss and we are sad," Ramos told Onda Cero radio. "We tried but it was not to be and we nevertheless have to be proud of our performance.

"It's hard to be eliminated but it's better that it has happened now than in a month's time. Now we must move on, show the same attitude and improve from our mistakes.

"The Champions League and La Liga remain the most important competitions."

Celta Vigo coach Eduardo Berizzo was very pleased with his players as for the second consecutive season his team has reached the Copa semifinals.

"Everything that has happened has been fantastic. I have to congratulate my players, this triumph is theirs," he told Marca. "We have knocked out a giant like Real Madrid and we look to the future with enthusiasm."

Real, meanwhile, have won just one and lost two of their last five games in all competitions, including a 2-1 league defeat at Sevilla on Jan. 15 that ended their impressive unbeaten stretch.

"We know that our unbeaten run was not going to be eternal," Ramos said. "It's obvious that we've had a great first half of the season and we are not worried."

Real midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who started on Wednesday, was also disappointed but said his team must look ahead with optimism.

He told Onda Cero radio: "All competitions are important and of course we wanted to win all of them because we are Real Madrid.

"But life goes on and we need to continue on our path. We are not worried. This team does not have doubts.

"We need to work and bounce back. We must overcome adversity with our heads held high."

Last season, Real Madrid were kicked out of Copa del Rey play for fielding an ineligible player, Denis Cheryshev, in the early rounds.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Juanfran, whose team drew 2-2 at Eibar on Wednesday to go through 5-2 on aggregate to the Copa semifinals, now knows that Real are not a hurdle that he and his teammates will have to clear.

"Nothing surprises me anymore," Juanfran told Onda Cero radio. "Any team can beat you and Celta are a great side.

"This competition is not easy and every team wants to go as far as possible."

Atletico had not reached the semifinals of the competition since the 2012-13 campaign, when they last lifted the Copa.

"We are very proud," Juanfran said. "It's not easy to reach this far and we will go all out to win it. Atletico want to win everything and this competition is special for us."

Atletico will join Celta and Alaves in Friday's Copa draw that will take place in Madrid.
