Zinedine Zidane warns Real Madrid that six-point lead means nothing

Zinedine Zidane has urged his Real Madrid players to maintain their focus despite holding a six-point advantage at the top of the La Liga standings.

Madrid have been in sensational form this season winning 10 and drawing four of their 14 domestic games. They are also gunning for a club record having equaled the 34-match unbeaten run in all competitions earlier this week.

A late Sergio Ramos goal saw them take a point from the Clasico against Barcelona last weekend, but the French tactician is refusing to get carried away.

"I don't think La Liga [title] is decided. We're playing and happy with the results lately but we know that the road is still very long," Zidane said.

"There are plenty of games to play, lots of things we have to do to achieve what we want to achieve.

"The six-point advantage doesn't mean anything. We're ahead right now but that doesn't mean we're going to win the league."

Madrid will have a chance to extend their lead when they take on Deportivo La Coruna this weekend, before heading to Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will eagerly await the Champions League knockout stage draw on Monday.

"We're going to to everything we can in all ways possible. This is our job, every day we want to go on the pitch and play football," he added.

"The players are doing spectacularly well so far and yes, the Champions League is a very important objective for us. We'll see on Monday which team we'll have to face next. It doesn't change much for us.

"There are many ways to get to the final. We'll see what happens on Monday.

"It's true we have won many trophies in Japan. It's true Japanese fans love Real Madrid so much. It's a country we love and we want to write another page of history there, winning another important trophy.

"This Club World Cup is another trophy we can win. We'll have a game in La Liga on Saturday first, then we'll stay a week there and we'll do our best.

"We will do it, as always, for all those who won't be there, all those who support this great club. We will do our best for sure."
