Luka Modric believes winning a first La Liga title since 2012 is Real Madrid's priority this season, saying it would even top retaining the Champions League.
Modric, 31, has won two Champions Leagues, two European Super Cups, the World Club Cup and one Copa del Rey since joining Madrid from Tottenham for €30 million shortly after their last title success.
However his four Primera Division seasons to date have brought three second-place finishes and one third spot, and after signing a new deal with Los Blancos that will keep the Croatia international at the club until 2020, he said lifting La Liga was now the priority.
"Since I arrived here I have won everything except La Liga -- that is all I have left to win," Modric told reporters in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu press room. "I hope we can do it this year.
"For a club like Real Madrid to not win it in four seasons is too long. That does not mean we do not want to win everything else too. We want to be first to defend the Champions League. But for me, and for many fans, the priority is to win La Liga and I hope we do it this year."

Modric's new deal will run almost to his 35th birthday, and he said he hoped he would be able to finish his career at the Bernabeu.
"This is a very special day for me," he said. "I'm very happy and emotional to renew my contract with Real Madrid, the best club in the world. I want to thank the club and the president Florentino Perez for having such confidence in me. I hope this is not my last contract, but my aim is to finish my career at Real Madrid.
"That depends on many things, how I feel then, how I am playing. We will have to see. I feel good, look after myself well and don't think about my age I can say I am playing some of the best football of my career at 31. So maybe I can play better as I get older."
Modric, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, declined to say when he was likely to return to action.
"I am working hard to be back playing as soon as possible," he said. "I am going day by day, and I feel better all the time. I hope I'm back on the pitch soon. But I cannot yet give a date."
Modric was voted the worst signing of the 2011-12 season by Marca but has become a firm favourite at Real, and scored 11 goals and given 27 assists in his 180 games in a Madrid jersey.
"The early criticism did not hurt -- I knew that here the demands were the greatest and I was ready for that," Modric said, looking back on the unwanted award. "I did not begin well, but I knew that sooner or later I was going to be a success here.
"To play at Real Madrid it is not enough to just have football quality. You must be mentally strong. For me that is key. You must never give up and have faith in yourself."
