Germany international Toni Kroos signs new Real Madrid contract

Real Madrid and midfielder Toni Kroos have agreed a two-year contract extension tying the Germany international to the club until June 2022.

Kroos joined Madrid from Bayern Munich for €30 million in summer 2014 and has since been a key player at the Bernabeu -- especially under current boss Zinedine Zidane.

The 26-year-old has been linked in recent months with a big-money move to the Premier League -- with his former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola reported to be keen for a reunion at Manchester City, and Manchester United also said to be interested.

That speculation was ended by a Blancos club statement which confirmed that the two-year extension to his current deal had been agreed.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Toni Kroos have come to an agreement on a contract extension which will see the player linked to the club until 30 June 2022," the statement said. "Toni Kroos will speak to the media tomorrow in the press room of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium."

Kroos has played 108 games for Madrid, scoring four goals, and winning Champions League, World Cup Cup and European Supercup medals.

German paper Bild reports that Kroos will double his salary and now receive €20m a year, making him the highest-paid member of his national team squad.

Other big earners at Madrid, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, are also close to agreeing new contracts with the Bernabeu outfit, according to local reports.
