Casemiro sidelined with fracture in lower leg, Real Madrid confirm

Real Madrid have ruled out midfielder Casemiro for an extended period after tests revealed a fracture in his leg.

According to Spanish media, the injury to his left calf typically requires a recovery period of one to two months.

The 24-year-old left Real Madrid's game against Espanyol in the first half on Sunday after he was accidentally kicked while blocking a shot.

A club statement said: "Following tests carried out today on Casemiro at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to the central third of his left fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Initial tests had revealed no significant damage, but swelling hid the extent of the injury.

The injury will rule Casemiro out of Brazil's next two World Cup qualifiers in October, and potentially the next two in Novemeber as well.

He had previously started for the Selecao in September in qualifying wins over Ecuador and Colombia.

Meanwhile, Real full-back Marcelo will reportedly miss two weeks after limping off during Wednesday's game, with scans set for Friday.

However, centre-back Pepe could be fit to face Las Palmas this weekend after completing light training on Thursday.
