Real Madrid have duty to win everything - Florentino Perez

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is excited about the new Champions League season following Thursday's draw in Monaco which has left last season's winners with Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lisbon, Legia Warsaw in Group F.

Real, coached by Zinedine Zidane, defeated Atletico Madrid in the final for the second time in three years to win their 11th European title.

"As always our aim is to win everything because we have the duty being Real Madrid," Perez said on the club's website. "We have improved our roster this season and we have a coach that has fit so well at Real Madrid that for him everything is easy. We know that we have to win the Champions League, the La Liga and the Copa del Rey."

The draw has left Cristiano Ronaldo going up against Sporting Lisbon, the club where he began his playing career before leaving for Manchester United as an 18-year-old.

Ronaldo scored the decisive penalty in a shootout against Atletico in last season's final and won Euro 2016 with Portugal.

He was named on Thursday ahead of teammate Gareth Bale and Atletico's Antoine Griezmann as UEFA's Best Player in Europe for the 2015-16 campaign.

"We are really happy because two Real Madrid players were among the best [three] in Europe," Perez said. "I think the prize going to Cristiano is recognition for one of his best seasons.

"He's won everything. I'd also like to say something about Bale, who arrived three years ago and has two Champions League [trophies]."

No team have defended the Champions League since its inception in 1992 but Bale said he hopes his side can become the first to do so, with the final being staged in his home city of Cardiff.

"It would be amazing to experience a Champions League final in Cardiff," Bale said. "It is obviously a difficult group but it always is in the Champions League.

"We fancy our chances to get through but we know there are going to be some difficult games."
