Real Madrid Castilla boss Luis Miguel Ramis announces departure

Real Madrid Castilla coach Luis Miguel Ramis has revealed he is leaving after a "marvellous six months" in charge, which ended with the team narrowly missing out on promotion to the Segunda Division.

Ramis had been Madrid's Juvenil A coach and then stepped up to the Castilla job in January when Zinedine Zidane was promoted to take over the club's first team.

He improved results significantly, but Castilla lost out to UCAM Murcia and then to UD Lleida in the end-of-season playoffs, meaning they will remain in Segunda B -- the Spanish third tier -- for a third straight season.

While Madrid have not released an official statement over Ramis' future, a tweet from the former Los Blancos and Deportivo La Coruna defender has suggested that he is moving on.

"The dream has lasted six months," Ramis said. "It has been marvellous. Thanks to all who have given their support. Hala Madrid forever."

Missing out on promotion means that many of the best youngsters at Madrid, such as Martin Odegaard, Borja Mayoral and Mariano Diaz, will now be sent out on loan to gain experience at a higher level, according to Marca.

Former Madrid first-team players Santi Solari and Guti, both currently at the club coaching further down the youth ranks, may now be offered the Castilla post.
