Defender Raphael Varane was taken off in the first half of Real Madrid's Champions League group stage match against Shakhtar with an apparent injury.
He was was replaced by Danilo in the 33rd minute, while Nacho took the Frenchman's place in the center of Madrid's defence.
Varane has played 12 matches with Real Madrid this season, including all five Champions League group stage games.
He was one of just four players to be maintained Wednesday in manager Rafa Benitez's starting XI after the weekend's 4-0 defeat to Barcelona at the Bernabeu.
