Toni Kroos happy at Real Madrid, unlikely to emulate Dirk Nowitzki

Germany international Toni Kroos has said he feels happy and settled at Real Madrid but does not plan on extending his career into his late 30s like his hero, NBA star Dirk Nowitzki.

Kroos, 25, signed for Real from Bayern on a six-year deal in 2014 for a fee in the region of €30 million.

Castilla coach Zinedine Zidane recently praised the Germany international, saying: "Toni is exactly the player we did not have. He is perfect for Real. We love him."

Kroos told Sport1: "I felt at home right from the beginning, and have settled down well in Madrid. It's of course a whole lot of fun to play at such a club.

"Looking back, it was a good decision to begin something new after the long stay at Munich. I think I was absolutely not disappointed."

Kroos has been a permanent member of the starting XI at Real, both under Carlo Ancelotti and new boss Rafa Benitez

He said: "I established myself right from the beginning, and played every match but for very few exceptions. That's not a given at a club like Real Madrid. Thus I am absolutely satisfied."

The midfielder is a huge fan of NBA professional Nowitzki, who at 37 is still a key for the Dallas Mavericks, but Kroos ruled out that he will emulate the towering German.

"You have to see that I started with professional football pretty early. I played my first games when I was just 17. That means, I have been part of it for eight years now," he said.

"I've played an incredible amount of games in the past few years, be it for Bayern, Real or the national team. It's true, I am only 25 and want to play for a bit longer, but in spite of that you feel the work load.

"Today, I can't imagine still playing football in my mid-30s."
