Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has a muscle tear in his left thigh, the result of an injury sustained while playing in a friendly for Colombia against Peru, the club's medical team said via statement on Thursday.

Colombia's team doctor, Carlos Ulloa, told reporters on Wednesday that the injury was not serious and that Rodriguez had been removed from Colombia's 1-1 draw against Peru in Harrison, New Jersey, only as a precautionary measure.
Real Madrid did not specify how long Rodriguez would be sidelined, saying only that they would "watch it as it develops" based on tests done on Thursday at Hospital Universitario Sanitas La Moraleja.
Madrid visits Espanyol in the Spanish league on Saturday.
