Carlo Ancelotti wants 'balanced' Real Madrid despite Deportivo destruction

Carlo Ancelotti claimed to still not be completely happy with his Real Madrid side after Saturday's 8-2 La Liga dismantling of Deportivo La Coruna.

Madrid took almost half an hour to break the deadlock but were 3-0 up by half-time, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting twice and James Rodriguez also on the scoresheet.

Depor netted twice in the second half from a Haris Medunjanin penalty and Toche header, but saw Gareth Bale grab a quick-fire double, Ronaldo complete his hat trick, and substitute Javier Hernandez join the party with two late long-range strikes for a comprehensive win.

Ancelotti believes the result -- following the midweek 5-1 humbling of Basel in the Champions League -- showed Madrid had bounced back well from their early season troubles, but the Italian coach told his postgame news conference the team still had plenty of issues to work on.

"In two games we have scored 13 goals, which shows we have reacted well," Ancelotti said. "We must improve. Today we showed the quality we have and how we can score in many different ways. But we must improve with our consistency and our balance."

Ancelotti said that Ronaldo's opening goal had been key in forcing Depor to come out and attack, giving Madrid's forwards more space to exploit.

"Until the first goal the game was balanced," he said. "Deportivo had defended well until then. Cristiano's goal opened up spaces and with that it was more difficult for them to control our forwards. In any case, we played with more intensity. The game was determined by how we finished our chances."

The former Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain coach said his three second-half substitutes -- Asier Illarramendi, Isco and Javier Hernandez -- had all helped in different ways.

"They gave the team more intensity," he said. "The fresh players helped to finish off the game quickly. Illarramendi brought balance, Chicharito stretched the play and Isco brought his quality."

Ronaldo is now La Liga's top scorer so far this season with five goals in his first four games, and James has three already since joining Madrid for 80 million euros during the summer.

Some of Madrid's goals showed sublime individual quality, but Ancelotti claimed to be most happy with how his big-name attackers had linked together during the 90 minutes.

"James played well, just like against Basel, and scored a great goal," he said. "We have a phenomenon [in Ronaldo] and players of great skill who combine well together. That was the best thing about the game."
