Raphael Varane signs Real Madrid contract extension until 2020

Raphael Varane has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid to tie him to Spanish club until 2020.

Varane, 21, signed for Los Blancos from Lens for eight million pounds in 2011 on a six-year contract, and played the full 120 minutes of last season's Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid.

The France international was linked with a move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but the new deal -- announced by the club on Thursday -- sees Varane secure a stay at the Bernabeu for the next five-and-a-half years.

Varane played all five of Les Bleus' World Cup games in Brazil this summer as Didier Deschamps' side reached the quarterfinals of the competition only to be narrowly beaten by eventual winners Germany.
