New Real Madrid striker Javier Hernandez spoke about a "dream" coming true after completing his loan move from Manchester United on Monday afternoon.

Hernandez, 26, passed a medical in the Spanish capital on Monday morning, with the two clubs agreeing a season-long loan deal with an option for the Liga outfit to buy outright next summer.

The new Blancos No. 14 told the assembled reporters at his unveiling that he did not think twice when the opportunity arose to leave Old Trafford for the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

"First I want to say I am delighted to be here, and appreciate that Real Madrid made the effort for me to come here," Hernandez said. "To wear this jersey is a dream for any player, to represent this grand institution. I hope things go well for me here. This is a dream come true. There is no player in the world who would say no to joining Real Madrid."

With Madrid already having so many high-profile attackers, including the "BBC" trident of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, it has been assumed that Hernandez has been signed as back-up or to play in less important games throughout the season.

Asked if he saw himself as a reserve player, the Mexico international said all he can do is work hard and try his best and see how things work out.

"I am coming here to do what I can, to give everything for this club," he said. "The fans will see a player who always gives everything, to try and help the team. This is a team game and the most important thing is for the club to keep winning trophies. I see this as an opportunity.

"When I went to England people doubted me as I was not the biggest or the strongest, but size was not so important. The best thing is to look at things very simply, to try and do your best. I just see this as a great opportunity to do what I do best in life, to play football. To be part of this great squad, with the best players in the world, is such an opportunity for me."

Asked whether he would be returning to England next summer, Hernandez said his focus now is on the short-term and a possible debut in Madrid's next Liga game against neighbours Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu on Sept. 13.

"The most important thing is the present -- from tomorrow to work hard and adapt to the demands of the coach," he said. "Then, the first game against Atletico, to bring whatever the coach asks, so that Real Madrid win the three points. I will do the best I can, physically and mentally, to help the team and improve as a player."
