Cristiano Ronaldo faces a fight to be fully fit for the UEFA Super Cup final later this month, AS has reported.

Real Madrid could be without the Portugal captain when they take on Sevilla in Cardiff on Aug.12 as he continues to recover from a knee problem.

He has been training apart from the rest of Carlo Ancelotti's squad, despite the Madrid coach having hinted after the friendly defeat to Roma in Dallas that he could face his old club Manchester United in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday.

On Thursday, Ancelotti said he and his coaching staff were being careful with Ronaldo, despite insisting that his knee injury was "forgotten."

Ronaldo has not played in either of Madrid's preseason friendly games against Inter Milan and Roma as a result of the tendinosis he began to suffer towards the end of last season.

Asked about Ronaldo's condition, Ancelotti told reporters: "We have to be careful. He is taking things very carefully, but the problem is forgotten.

"He is training well by himself. We are going to see over the next few days whether he can play against Manchester United."
